PianoLab Instructor

As the Instructor of our PianoLab program, you will play an essential role in bringing piano music to K-8 students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. You will deliver group piano instruction to beginner students using the digital Roland Piano Lab system. You will also work collaboratively with the PianoLab Coordinator and the Education and Community Engagement Lead to bring the program to life.

Responsibilities
  • Lead successful execution of PianoLab program in CMSD, including:
    • Teaching 45-minute group piano lessons to up to eight students at a time, four times per week (Monday-Thursday)
    • Planning and preparing lesson plans for the semester using the provided PianoLab curriculum along with other resources, as needed
    • Delivering the curriculum in an engaging, age-appropriate manner in relation to each students’ individual needs
    • Making teachings accessible to all students, in coordination with the PianoLab Coordinator and Education and Community Engagement Lead
    • Ensuring instrument technology functions appropriately, and troubleshooting tech issues that may arise
  • Collaborate closely with the PianoLab Coordinator on weekly lesson plans
  • Work with the PianoLab Coordinator and Education and Community Engagement Lead to ensure successful completion of the program by:
    • Assisting in building and overseeing evaluation criteria to measure program impact
    • Assisting in planning and execution of end-of-program showcase for student participants
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Preferred experience in music education, childhood education, and/or music
  • Familiarity with piano technique, repertoire, and teaching materials
  • Experience teaching groups of students
  • Ability to adapt lesson plans in real time to address student needs
  • Creative individual with knowledge of planning, designing, and implementing innovative and exceptional arts education content, lesson plans, and programming
  • Comfortable staying up-to-date on current PreK-12 learning standards and trends
  • Exemplary at working with diverse audiences across many backgrounds, including adults, families, children, teachers, schools, and community organizations
  • Able to understand the challenges and opportunities in urban settings
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional communications skills
  • Self-motivated with enthusiasm to try new things
  • Willing and excited to be a part of a collaborative and supportive team in a fast-paced creative environment
  • Preferred, but not required:
    • 1-3 years of relevant work experience working as a music educator or performer; especially in a non-profit setting
    • Knowledge of classical music and/or piano music
    • Knowledge of Spanish (both written and spoken)
Salary, Benefits and Schedule
  • $100 per group lesson
  • Lessons are 45-minutes each, held Monday through Thursday between the hours of 4PM – 5PM at Paul L. Dunbar on Cleveland’s west side
  • Lessons run for 10 weeks every semester from October to December, and February to April
  • Teacher would need to be available beginning in September to start planning for the semester.
  • Compensation at an agreed upon hourly rate will be provided for time spent planning.
