Jiarui Cheng was born in Nanjing, China and is currently studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Professor Kathryn Brown. Previously, he studied at the Middle School affiliated with Shanghai Conservatory of Music with Professor Jin Tang. Jiarui was featured as a soloist with Shanghai Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra for the 70th Anniversary Celebration Concert of Music and performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 at Shanghai Symphony Hall in 2015, a piece he also performed with the Grossetto Symphony Orchestra in Italy. He has been awarded prizes at various competitions. Most recently, he was a winner of the Fall 2019 CIM Concerto Competition, won Second Prize in the 2017 International Piano Competition “A. Scriabin”, and First Prize in the 2015 National Piano Competition of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Middle School. He was also the recipient of the Niu Ende Piano Scholarship of Shanghai Conservatory in 2017.
