Prize Winner in the Santander International Piano Competition in 2018, Brazilian pianist Lucas Thomazinho started his musical studies at age of eight, winning his first contest, the Souza Lima National Piano Competition, only a year later. Since then, he has continued to win several prizes in national and international piano competitions, including the First Prize in the XVIII Santa Cecilia International Competition (Portugal) and Second Prize in the I Teresa Carreño International Piano Competition. He has performed as soloist with orchestras such as RTVE Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, working with leading conductors like Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Marin Alsop, Henrik Schaefer, Neil Thomson, and Roberto Minczuk. Lucas has played in Brazil, Portugal, France, Germany, and the United States, working both in solo repertoire and chamber music. Lucas studied with full scholarship at the Magda Tagliaferro Foundation with teachers Zilda Candida dos Santos, Armando Fava Filho, and Flavio Varani. He graduated from the University of São Paulo with a Bachelor’s degree in Music under the direction of Professor Eduardo Monteiro. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in piano at the New England Conservatory of Boston, studying with Wha Kyung Byun and Alessio Bax.
