Born in 1997 in Siberia, pianist Simon Karakulidi has lived in the United States since 2016. He became deeply interested in classical music at the age of 14, and before then he was a passionate jazz pianist. Last summer, Simon moved to Germany to learn more about the European musical tradition of Europe from Professor Oliver Kern at HfMDK Frankfurt. An aspiring polymath with interests ranging from poetry to philosophy, he received his master’s degree at the Yale School of Music. Simon is enthusiastic about American classical music and is currently engaged in learning the complete piano works of David Lang and Nico Muhly. He is also passionate about commissioning new music.
Simon is a prize-winner of more than 16 International Piano Competitions. In February 2023, Simon won First Prize at the Piano Campus Competition in Cergy-Pontoise, France. In addition to the top prize, he received five special prizes. Simon will also give 12 recitals throughout Italy as a result of his victory at Arcangelo Speranza Piano Competition in May 2023.
Among his past teachers are Stanislav Ioudenitch and Wei-Yi Yang. Simon has also been coached by Diego Prigollini.
