James (Zijian) Wei, a Chinese young generation pianist, was the Third Place winner of the 76th Geneva International Music Competition (Piano) and recipient of the Rose-Marie Huguenin Special Prize. Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, the First Prize winner of the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition, commented, “I heard Zijian Wei’s performance at the Giverny Music Festival, and he not only possesses exceptional talent in solo performances but also excels in chamber music. He has a strong musical sense and constructs his interpretations with intelligence and imagination. I believe he has a great future ahead and is prepared to embark on a career as a concert performer.”
As a soloist, James (Zijian) Wei has achieved remarkable results at major competitions both domestically and internationally, including the Huanglong Music Season Piano Competition, where he received the top prize in the professional group, the Jianfa Gulangyu International Competition, where he secured the First Prize, the China Grand Canal International Piano Art Festival, and the Lang Lang Cup Piano Competition, where he earned the Second Prize. He has also won the First Prize in the professional group of the Changjiang Cup National University Piano Competition, the Best Chinese Work Award at the Beijing International Chopin Piano Competition, and the Best Performance Award in the Yanhuang Cup Composition Competition (2018-2019) at the Central Conservatory of Music. He has represented Chinese pianists at prestigious international competitions such as the Chopin International Piano Competition and the Marguerite Long International Piano Competition.
